Teenagers and young adults need to be able to have some kind of self defense device they can carry to protect themselves from a personal assault. Unfortunately most self defense products are made for use by legal aged adults. However there are some very effective devices that young people can carry on them to help protect themselves from a personal attack when they are at bus stops, out running errands, with friends and at social events. These products are personal alarms. The extremely loud screech the products make will notify onlookers to any bad situation, by causing a scene and give the youth a chance to run for safety.
Personal alarms come in different sizes and types. There is the HP-388 Electronic Pocket/Keychain Whistle. This whistle shoots 120db of ear piercing sound with the push of a button that makes the alarm sound for as long as the button is pushed. You don't really blow this whistle.
There is also a car remote type key chain alarm with a flashing light. This product shoots a very loud 130db alarm when the attached pin in the unit is removed or pulled out or can be activated by pushing the button on the top of the unit. The flashing light gives even more protection at night. There are several different models of this type of alarm as well.
Another great self protection device for teenagers and young adults is the Mace Screecher Aerosol Alarm. This product is similar in size to a pepper spray can but holds 10 grams of an ear-piercing high pitched shriek that can be heard as far away as mile. It is activated by a push-top activator and its compact size makes it easy to carry.
When our young adults and teens are out doing things without their parents, they need some kind of self protection on them. The economic climate is causing more concern for you and your family's personal safety. These alarms are very affordable and effective for use to help defend oneself case of an assault. One thing a perpetrator does not want is to draw attention to himself and what he is trying to do. The noise that comes from these personal alarms will give you or your loved one time enough to run to safety by creating an ear-piercing scene. They are very affordable and compact for ease of use.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)I notice that none of the products mention are good for actual defense, only as deterrent measures. While they may do some good in areas with high population density, they'd be useless in more rural areas or in small towns. I'm no parent, but I'd never be content with giving my teenage daughter a siren or a strobe light, when I could as easily give her a canister of enough skin-blistering, eye-melting bear spray to halt a barrooms-worth of ruffians where they stand.
i think young teenagers like me should all get a free personal safety devicei know right?!?:)
